Welcome to the MARS family, little man!

MEET CRASH!
He is a 2 1/2 year old Papillon/Chihuahua mix.
This little guy has REALLY been through some serious life changes in the last month. Disconnected from his original home, he was picked up as a stray, and immediately rushed into emergency surgery to repair a dislocated hip joint. (It is still uncertain his he sustained the injury in the first place.) Unfortunately, nobody ever came forward to claim him so he had to sit at the vets office for almost a month while he healed. Although his hip was repaired, he wasn't worked with to strengthen the hip so his muscle just shriveled. (In this amount if time, he should have been using it again.) He will try and can bare weight, he just prefers not to at the moment. Here at MARS, we are dedicated to the rehabilitation of the animals in our program so when we were asked to take on his recovery, we couldn't pass up the chance to help him. He is incredibly sweet and just wants your attention. He will be available for adoption in the near future but for now, we are going to work with him to get that leg moving again! His smile says it all... He's a happy boy that is eager to be in a happy home!

Crash does well with other animals, but once he bonds with his person, he prefers to be the only pet, or have an owner that is knowledgeable with training, and can stop the behavior immediately. He was adopted and returned due to this, so we do not want to see this little guy in the same situation again. He generally does well not pottying in a crate (small, correctly sized crate) and let out on a regular schedule, however, he does still need work on house training.

• Please note that because our shelter is located in southern Illinois, about 3 hours south of Champaign, our animals are available for adoption in Champaign only during scheduled events, and are available in Murphysboro, IL between events, by appointment.
