M.A.R.S. EQUINE PROGRAM
We have a dedicated team that pours their hearts into their work. Most of the hours that our team puts in are donated, along with supplies to add new features to our program. Here is some of the latest progress!
6/14/10- BARN RENOVATION COMPLETED!
Thank you to all of our staff for their hard work to get this completed!
We now have 5 box stalls with fans, individual grooming supplies for each horse, grooming area, tack cleaning area, 70'x30' sand riding arena, 2 pastures, 2 horse trailer.
6/7/10- 2 NEW STALLS COMPLETED!
We have just added 2 new stalls to the barn (total of
five 10x12 box stalls)! Thank you so much to everyone that put in the
time to get them done! They look fabulous and the horses are so happy.
RIDING ARENA COMPLETED!
We finally have our riding arena completed! It measures 70'x30'. This will benefit our horses by providing a larger, safe area to work on leads and side-passing. Thank you to RW Lawn, Tree and Excavation- you did an amazing job!
5/31/10- NEW STALLS UNDER CONSTRUCTION!Each
stall floor will be lined with 1" rubber mats for comfort and support.
The mats will be covered by 2-3" of wood pellet bedding (turns into a
sandy type material), that provides superb absorbency and minimizes
odor with minimal dust (helps alleviate coughing and sneezing). Each
stall will be equipped with a 5 gal. corner water trough, and feed
bucket. Each stall gate is made of aluminum tubing. Each stall front
will have a tack hook, bucket hook (grooming supplies for each
individual horse are kept in their own bucket), and mounted saddle rack
with bridal hook.
LESSON PROGRAM
We hope that with the assistance of our Equine Rescue Team we will be able to start horse training clinics, along with riding lessons to increase public awareness and sensitivity to the need for horse rescue in the area. With the help of the horses in our program and our own 'permanent herd' (the term we use to describe the horses that we use to help rehabilitate rescued horses in our adoption program), that we can get more people involved in rescue efforts, and show them how magnificent these animals really are. Our students will learn how to properly groom and bathe the horses, and do basic ground work with them. Students will learn how to use their own bodies and energy to communicate with the horse to show them what behavior they want.
