Expanding Horse Rescue -- Tuesday November 8th, 2011

MARS is expanding horse rescue and training services in southern Illinois! Due to increased demand for this service, we are currently fundraising in order to expand our barn and pastures, and possible open a low-cost vaccination clinic to the public to help keep the costs of caring for a horse lower. We also offer horse training services to the public, along with one-on-one training consultations to owners that find themselves struggling with behavioral issues with their horse. We are hoping that by offering this training service to the public that it will allow more owners to keep their horse, instead of being forced to sell him due to issues that may be resolved with training. We need your support to keep this program going! By making a donation to MARS, you are helping to save more lives. NOW, THAT'S SOMETHING TO BE PROUD OF!

NEW PRE-ADOPTION RESORT -- Thursday December 16th, 2010

The MARS Team has been hard at work remodeling our new kennel facility in southern IL. This facility, which we have dubbed our 'pre-adoption resort' will be up and running shortly. This facility includes 4'x'5 kennels, which are elevated off the floor to allow all surfaces to stay clean and dry. Each kennel will be 'furnished' with a Kuranda dog bed, two spill-proof bowls, Kong puppy toys and treats to pamper the animals in our program. SPAY/NEUTER LAW- ILLINOIS -- Friday April 9th, 2010

Due to some confusion, here is the new IL state law taken directly from the Dept. of Agriculture's website: "(225 ILCS 605/3.3) Sec. 3.3. Adoption of dogs and cats. (a) An animal shelter or animal control facility shall not adopt out any dog or cat unless it has been sterilized and microchipped. However, an animal shelter or animal control facility may adopt out a dog or cat that has not been sterilized and microchipped if: (1) the adopting owner has executed a written agreement agreeing to have sterilizing and microchipping procedures performed on the animal to be adopted within a specified period of time not to exceed 30 days after the date of the adoption, or (2) the adopting owner has executed a written agreement to have sterilizing and microchipping procedures performed within 14 days after a licensed veterinarian certifies the dog or cat is healthy enough for sterilizing and microchipping procedures, and a licensed veterinarian has certified that the dog or cat is too sick or injured to be sterilized or it would be detrimental to the health of the dog or cat to be sterilized or microchipped at the time of the adoption." Please let us know if you have any questions regarding this law. Thank you!

NEW SPAY/NEUTER LAW -- Tuesday September 1st, 2009

Due to a change in Illinois State law, as mandated by the Department of Agriculture, all unaltered animals adopted from rescues or shelters must be spayed or neutered within 30 days of the adoption. At this point, we have chosen to continue our policy of not altering any animals under 5 months (based on our veterinarian's recommendations). However, once an animal leaves our care, State law now requires that the animal be rendered incapable of reproduction within 30 days rather than by 6 months of age. This new policy is effective immediately and will affect all adoptions from this date forward. Our adoption contract will be updated to reflect the new law and policy. Thank you for your understanding. If you have any questions regarding our spay/neuter policies or procedures, please give us a call at 312-505-1471 between noon and 5 on weekdays.

Post-Adoption Survey -- Tuesday July 14th, 2009

We have just developed and posted our Post-Adoption Survey! If you have adopted from M.A.R.S., we want to know how it was. The feedback from your survey will allow us to improve our adoption process based on what you, the adopter, has to say. Please only fill out one per adoption, NOT one per family member. Thank you! We appreciate that you chose to adopt your pet from M.A.R.S.
